- Well, lets's give this a try.
-
- You only have 1 modem and one phone line. Which in data communications
- means only one call one connection at a time.
- When you first place an outgoing call the modem goes 'off-hook' and
- you hear dial tone. When the remote modem answers and hand-shaking
- take place carrier detect goes high. If another local computer attempts
- to make another dial-up connection the modem goes 'off-hook' again and
- carrier detect drops out completely and looses the first connection.
- Then, the second call is placed.
-
- Hope this helps.
